There’s a certain tone/vibe showing up in a lot of captions right now. They’re not bad. But they don’t sound like anyone. They sound like everyone.

It’s the same hooks. The same dramatic question. The same recycled advice. The same “it’s not this, it’s this”.

You start reading and you already know where it’s going. Sometimes you stop before the second line.

It’s because it doesn’t feel written. It feels generated.

You can tell when something didn’t pass through a real person’s brain. It sounds like the same person selling life coaching services is also working at your local dentist office, and the pet store, and the lash studio. And you know they aren’t, so why does all the messaging feel like it’s from one person?

This isn’t about calling people out for using AI. Use it. We do. It helps.

BUT…People are outsourcing the entire thought. They’re skipping the part where they actually say something. Instead they are saying the same thing everyone else is saying.

If you’ve been writing captions that don’t feel like you, that might be why. If you’re noticing that your feed feels tired or flat, maybe your voice has left the building.

That’s what we mean when we say your brain misses you.

You don’t need to be poetic, just be present. It’s about saying things you believe instead of things that just fill space.

Let your posts sound like you. Let them be a little off sometimes. Let them surprise people. Let them feel like they could only have come from you. LET THERE BE A TYPO.

Use AI if you want. Just don’t let it replace the part of the process where you show up.

And if you are going to use AI, there are ways to do it without letting it flatten your voice.

Start by giving it more to work with. Don’t open with “write me a caption.” Tell it what you’re trying to say. Drop in a rough thought. Use it to shape an idea, not to create one from scratch.

It also helps to show it what your voice actually sounds like. Copy and paste something you’ve written before and ask it to match that tone.

Be specific about what you want to avoid. You can say “skip the clichés,” or even list a few phrases you never want to see. Yes, it will listen.

And most importantly, rewrite the draft. Even if it’s close. Especially if it’s close. Move things around. Say it better. Cut the filler. Use your actual words. This is the part most people skip, and it’s also the part that makes a difference.

Your brain misses you. You should text her back!!!

P.S. We drafted this blog with AI. Then we rewrote it. We cut the fluff and added things we actually meant. Hopefully it feels like a person wrote it. Because one (hiiiii) did.
